SILS

The SILS™ technique involves placing multiple instruments through a single access point. The ability to articulate allows the surgeon to approach the surgical site from different angles, thereby restoring triangulation and improving visualization.

Single incision adjustable gastric band surgery involves less pain and little or no scarring. Since there is no need to cut through the stomach muscle, recovery is much shorter. The cosmetic results are amazing. Most patients have no visible scars after this surgery.

SILS represents a significant advancement in surgery over traditional “open” procedures and even earlier forms of laparoscopy. This approach has been used since the late 1990s, and has steadily moved to the forefront in recent years and expanded to include numerous procedures.

The SILS approach – sometimes called "bellybutton surgery" – was developed to make surgery less invasive. Instead of an incision that may be several inches long with traditional surgery, or several half-inch incisions used with standard laparoscopic surgery, SILS surgery uses only one small incision, usually in the navel. State-of-the-art technology allows our SILS surgeons to operate through one discreet incision less than an inch in length.

The best applications for this type of scarless surgery are LAP-BAND and Sleeve Gastrectomy procedures.

Potential benefits of a SILS procedure may include:

•  Shorter recovery and downtime

•  Small, hidden scars

•  Less post-surgical discomfort
